Farmall Super M-TA

The casting on the rear hub where the wheel
weights are bolted on are about an 1/8 of a turn
off(instead of being straight above the wedge
bolt)...is this normal??? It has a casting code of
1-21-A, I had read in your site that all Super M-
TA"s are supposed to be Z"s

Also how many of the Super M-TA"s were
manufactoried in the US?? I have heard
26924...16000...and your site had said 2522.

This tractor has a serial number of 75801
AS...what does the AS stand for???

Someone has replaced the rear hubs on your Super M-TA with ones off a 400.

The correct hub for a Super M-TA only has 6 large holes, 6 lugs, and a drop center rim. Yours has 8 holes, 8 lugs, and a double-bevel rim. Combined with the A casting code indicates that they belong on a 1955 Farmall 400.

I have never seen hubs with the wheel weights "twisted" like that. Very strange. Are they both like that?

Thats a cast wheel someone used from a farmall 400. Some of those early wheels were drilled off pattern for the weights. Saw some wheels that were redrilled with 8 bolt holes at the weight mounting area. Most I noticed like that were cast in december of 1954 and you are close. Also the wheels use a different rim than a SMTA did.
A = a tractor equiped with a distillate fuel attachment. Would originaly had a extra hole in the hood with a small starting tank with fill opening in the hole and also some other changes for the fuel. S = that the tractor came with a T/A with parts to drive a IPTO, PTO could be installed or not.
SMTA tractors started at serial number 501 and ended at 83523. If you subtract 501 from 83523 that leaves the total number of SMTA tractors of all types that could be built. Due to things happening and some tractors being pulled out of production and scrapped the total is probably some less than the total from the subtraction.
I sure won't claim to know the exact number built.
Also 75801 was built in june 1954.
Scratch off the 501 above. As pointed out 60,001 was the start.

That is correct. They started at 60001.

There is no official exact count of how many tractors were produced. Just guesses. This was before computers. Everything was tracked by paper, and that was 59 years ago.

Yes...they are both like that. And the casting numbers are
both the same as well.
Thank you all for the information...it helps me out greatly.
I"ve never noticed it before on other 400"s. Learn something
new everyday.
Anybody know of anyone that has SMTA hubs for sale
around the southeastern MN Northern IA southwestern WI
area???
Another question...like with Olivers...they have build
paperwork that can be tracked, is there any such thing like
like with Farmalls?? So these papers would tell you what
parts are on this serial number.
Thanks again.
