farmall b /bolt torque

according to the IH shop manual the rods are to be 40ft/#

head 65ft/#

IT manual agrees on head but says 40-45 on rods

From what I have been told by guys on here 65 for the head is the old number and the new number is 85 ft/lbs

Yep when I did my BA I used the old 65ft/lbs and it has been ok but was told I should have used 85 but since it isn't broken I have not fixed it LOL. But I also did this tractor old school as in how a farmer back in the 40s may have ad to get by as in no new gaskets and as much used stuff as I could get by with. I did use a used head gasket but used 6 coats of Aluminum paint on the gasket and head and block ad the last coat was done wet so it sort of glued the head on

Torque the rods to 40 & if the cotter key doesn't go in just turn it enough to do so. Heads should be 80. I usually go to 75 in 3 or 4 steps then go to 80 after a few heat cycles.

Head bolts are 80 ft/lbs. Read your head gasket, it probably calls for Sealer to be used and retorque after the engine has been warmed up.
