im putting back a farmall h that was given to me, and on the back of the cylinder head below the valve cover is a brass fitting threaded into head, its not the water temp area thats around the corner oil pressure seems to be down on block, was this a cap plug at one time? any info helps, also the manifold has a hole on the side can i just use high temp jb and plug it up? there is also a flap or closer gate that is rusted up whats that for help warm up?

It is a fitting for a pipe to the air cleaner to allow a measure of Positive Crancase Ventilation.
There is a mating spot on the Air Cleaner to which a pipe is attached. Jim

That fitting goes to a line that goes to the air cleaner as I remember. It is a crankcase vent and sends the air back into the carburetor stream. The manifold you are describing sounds like a kerosene or distillate manifold, they had a system to help the engine warm up more rapidly but you do not need that unless you are trying to keep it authentic.

Connect it to the air cleaner. It is part of the breather system to remove blowby gasses from the valve cover area.
Connects in the front to the governor housing.
