The tractor vet 02-21-2013 15:44:45 75.19.115.148 Report to Moderator	Done got involved in a major trans plant to bring new life to a DOA horse .Last fall just after we were all done with the corn my one close friend and i went on a short road trip to fetch a 2150 Oil ALL OVER that was DOA . What a fun job that was tryen to get it moved out the holes it had sunk into from setting DEAD for like ten years WITH the brakes set . We had the use of a 410 Deere backhoe and it would not dead pull it and usen the hoe we made four chains out of two . Till we beat the brakes off . We loaded it down hill and got it up on the trailer and i want to tell ya it is one heavy INGOT as My buddy's Dodge Cummins high out put and six speed had all it wanted . Well we got it in his shop after i finished up the 460 and we got into that 478 herc. and found that she sucked #6 sleeve down and made lots of spare parts in the pan. We could have sleeved it and bored it back to Std. and done a total rebuild and had it up and running ,But after pushen the pencil around and getting prices i told Vernon WHY don't we just put a Cummins in it. Well that is what we are doing , it is getting a 8.3 cummins and other then motor mounts that we have to make up and make a fan hub up to raise the fan up about 4 inches this is a BOLT IN DEAL . we found a Industrial 8.3 WITH the correct rear engine housing that is a direct bolt to the three speed got the correct flywheel that will take the stock clutch and the PTo drive , i love it when a plan comes together . I had talked to one guy that is suppose to be the GURU of these trans plants and he was the most arrogant SOB that i have ever run into and he told me that he would do that job as HE was the ONLY one that knew how to do it and HE was the only one that had the parts to do it with. NOT he wanted 22000 us, even with my labor around 7 grand . I am having way to much fun on this job to the point it should be Illegal. [Reply]   [No Email]
