IH fan 02-21-2013 11:16:56 108.246.52.113 Report to Moderator	... old 240U had leaked all the gas out and the spare gas is in the shed where I'll need to shovel some snow to get to it. Wife has given me orders to not shovel due to not having the best heart around, but I'll do a little at a time and get there. Cranked over good, but wouldn't start. I had the gas valve under the tank shut off, but it leaked out somewhere anyway. Had over 1/2 tank of gas a month ago when I started it, but not today. Have a good foot of heavy wet snow, more than I figure the AWD SUV will go through and the city has been through and piled it up at the street. Good thing is we really needed the moisture and this is wet. It will be like watering and fertilizing when it melts. [Reply]   [No Email]

If you lost a half tank you should be able to see clear signs of it on the tractor such as peeling paint. I think you probably have a thief in your midst. Get one of those cheap trail cams and set it up somewhere close and I"ll bet you"ll find out where your gas is going. [Reply]  [No Email]

Only evidence of leaks is hydraulic fluid. I should take the pump off and put in a new shaft seal... that's the worst leak I have. I have added about 2 1/2 gal. since I bought the tractor about 7-8 years ago, but most within the last 2 years so it's getting worse. added: Amazing what a little gas will do. Fired right up after dumpung a 5 gallon can in her. opened up the driveway, not pretty, but should be able to get either vehicle out. The old '95 F-150 is sitting where it will have to melt first, but it pretty much stays hooked to the utility trailer and I won't need it for a while, but my AWD Hyundai Santa Fe and wife's LS should get out okay. We have a circle drive about 180' off the road and only opened one side as it's supposed to get into the 40s by Sunday and it should melt off. This post was edited by IH fan at 12:05:04 02/22/13. Got a couple of 5 gallon cans in the shed with the gas for tractor, garden tractor, mowers or whatever. Shed is only 12x16 with an 8x12 "lean too" extention. Poor old 240U has to sit outside. Should be some evidence of dripping however on or below the tractor. Even if those spots are not leaking, the valve may not close completely and leak through the carburetor. [Reply]  [No Email]

It is parked in my front yard, next to a neighbor I don't trust. I had 1/2 tank or better missing once before and thought it was leaking, even though there was no real evidence of a leak. That's when I started shutting off the valve. Then no more leaks until this time, after running the tractor about a month ago, and filling the loader hydraulics which had leaked down some, and checking to be sure there was at least 1/2 tank of gas. I know there is a leak in the loader pump shaft seal and a small leak near the PS Char-Lynn torque generator, but never noticed evidence of a gas leak. With a foot or better of snow now, I wouldn't see that now anway. [Reply]  [No Email]
