A Farmall Moldboard Lift

Is the lift rod that goes from the lift lever to the rear to the plow supposed to slide inside the pipe/sleeve that is used to lift the plow. From everything I can see in the books it"s two separate pieces and the book says to push the lever all the way forward when plowing. Mine is currently frozen into one piece and I can see where it should move freely to allow the plow to move up and down on it" own.

That rod realy wouldnt need to be so it could float as you do pull the lever back to lift the plow. I would guess they had that part in two pieces for assy. Yourlever is for adjusting the depth of the plow. Does yours have the guage wheel?

Should float! Technically that lever only lifts, depth is controlled by the lever in front of you which controls the front of the plow beam. The right hand lever lifts the plow and must float when the plow is in the ground to work as designed

Gene, I picked up the lift lever that mounts on the right side of the floor board. I also have the depth lever that mounts on the side of the trans tunnel. No gauge wheel. I realize the depth is controlled by the angle of the point and not the lift lever. Back a few years ago,(quite a few), we used to plow with a walking plow behing a team of mules and you had to learn how to set the plow up so not to work yourself to death. After a while we could plow this heavy clay with just one hand after we learned not to fight the plow. The rod that goes under the seat to the plow should not put downward pressure on the plow is how I see the lay-out in the manual and should be free to float with the beam. My rod is frozen solid and I just needed confirmation that it should be free to float.

yes that rod need to be free ,in case of up presure (rocks and such)it can rise without damage to parts ,stumper
