Can't always go by the serial number list sflem849 posted. Are you sure thats a letter T following the serial number and not a J.
If you go by calender year that tractor was made in December 1952.
Tractor may not be a factory LP, any pictures?

So if the YT list is not correct where is "the official" list?

does it have live hyds or or a belly pump? also where is the battery under the seat or under the lp tank? what about the head light style? those are usually good indicators on age. mine is a 52, serial num 19475cj

Guy Fay's or Ken Updike's data books. I haven't used the YT list, when I looked at it once or twice I assumed it was close enough.

If it is wrong on this one it is off by 10,000s.

List may not be wrong, just misleading. For some reason diesel tractors leaving farmall works must have stopped in the last 1/3 or so of 1952. MDV 12516 was the lowest serial number SM shown as built in 1953, SMD was close behind. Other SM tractor serial numbers first built in 1953. SMV-20498, SMCH-20623, SM-21074.
They have a monthly serial number list on line now from the ones sent to the wisconsin historical society. You can search for International harvester serial records. Can't tell you exactly how. Need to click and follow to find farmall works serial numbers.
Think Ricks tractor started out as a reguler SM gas tractor below serial # 21074.
Should add, if you find the monthly serial number list for 1952. Look for the line with FBK. It won't say anything about SM, but starts off as serial numbers for regular M tractors. On over the numbers drop and those are a regular SM tractor. 17,000 something was the first built in december of 1952.

They actually had some stuff about looking that up in the winter edition of "Harvester Highlights" magazine.

LP was added to that one. Looks like that grill is good enough to raise the value some on the tractor.

(quoted from post at 18:04:38 02/21/13) thats what im thinkin does that hurt value????

to me, not really. im not that nit picky, but some are. The thing i would want correct would be the LP system in that i wouldnt want a field changover or swap, id want a delivered from the factory LP tractor. just my preference
