Trying to find an MD (very late 1952) head gasket. I keep running across references to engines with numbers like BD144, BD 154, D264, D281, D236, etc. Can anyone tell me how to tell what cubic inch diesel I have? Thanks, John |

| Original engine model would be D-248. Then you need to know if its 3-7/8 bore, or changed from a 3-7/8 inch bore to 4 inch pistons. Then you get into 2 different type sleeves. Need to see how much the sleeves protrude above the deck and shape on top. Not common to still have 3-7/8 pistons and sleeves.
Double check me on this because I never used these new gaskets.
If you have sleeve flanges that raise above the block a good bit. Head gasket 119166A1. For flanges even or just above, gasket 225604A1.

| well we told you john, how to tell what cid diesel you have. i dont see where mdnuts is answering your question, other than posting stuff about the diff. bores. to find a 248 is rare.also when going to buy the gasket the parts man would ask what bore it is. and now back to the show! |

| Engine designation is cast into the side of the block somewhere.
On an MD you should find "D264." |
