Doing inframe on Farmall 544 gasoline engine.

There is a gear on center of crankshaft that drives 2 gears in a casting that bolts on under crankshaft.

What is it? An oil slinger or balancing device or what?

Any counsel appreciated.

Tommy

There are some timing marks, how would I time it?

Balancer.

Line the one on the driven gear up with the one on the crackshaft gear with #1 at TDC on compression. Hopefully you have not taken the balancer apart. There may be shims to adjust backlash: don"t lose them (and don"t mix them up: one has a hole in it). This is all in the engine service manual (which you should have) on page 1-36.

Tom if you need any used parts for that engine i have a complete gas engine already taken apart for a 544 and also have the rest of the tractor including real nice sheet metal.

I might be interested in some of those parts if Tom doesn"t need them. I"m going to have to tear into my 544 as soon as the herd is out on grass and I can stop using it to feed round bales. Do you have a TA by any chance?

BTW I have a used rocker arm assembly I could part with.

I have the complete tractor, except the engine is all apart. I bought it that way hoping to replace the engine but now i think i will part it out. Email me for more info. Thanks Erik.
