A front axle removal

Going to the junk yard this week to get a A front axel. What is the easyest way to remove it?? Can you just knock out the piviot pin, or to you have to off the plate its mounted too?? THANKS in advace, It would like to go prepared..

If you need the plate you can take it off afterward. Main thing is to be sure you have the axle and the tractor supported. BUT, I completely disassembled my Super A, and I remember I took the plate off with the axle; then I had one heck of a time getting the pin out. I gave up and went to a machine shop that had a press. It should slide right out, mine didn't.

A few years back, I bought a wide front end off an IHC M. I had to remove it myself at the salvage yard.
The front end of the tractor was raised up a bit with a high lift jack then dropped down on a secure pile of timbers behind the plate. After disconnecting the drag link, the plate was unbolted, dropped off the tractor, and the whole front end dragged out from under the tractor. It worked quite well.
The front end was disassembled after I got it home for cleaning repairs etc.
Hop[e this helps.

If you get the weight off the front so no pressure is on it . Then it should drive out easy. Ive never had one that was froze but theres always the first.

If it doesn't drive right out, it is probably broken in the tube. Ours was broken & was kind of tough to get out. Be careful if you press it---if broken.

Just be ready, when the pin is driven out, the axle will drop, either forward or backward, very quickly, and it is HEAVY.

Last time I dropped the f axle on my 100, I forgot that fact. I had the axle grabbed by one hand, between the axle tube and the tie rods. Is was lucky when it dropped so quickly it didn't break my hand across the tie rods
