350 Hi-Utility

Just wondering if anyone would know the value of a 350 Hi Utility It is in fair condition, it runs but could use some carb work and a paint job. I would consider selling it.

Less than 1900 units total 877 gasoline remainder diesel. If pretty clean with good tires and steering, probably between 3000 and 4000. Jim

Do you know anyone interested? I don't really need to sell it but it doesn't get used much here and is in the way in the shed. Thanks for the quick reply.

Exactly what was the purpose of the high utility? Was it just that instead of sitting up higher like a row crop, you sit lower stratling the tranny? Kind of like an AC D- series.

I don't have a good answer for that. As far as clearance, I have a 460 HU which uses the same rear end and wheels as a row crop 460. In other words the rear clearance is the same. If the 460 RC has a WF the front clearance should be the same too. The utility/HU has a swept back front axle meaning that the turning radius is less than with the WF on the 460, but more than the NF. Also the utility/HU will not turn as short because with a locked rear wheel, the tire will slide and it will not "turn on a dime" like the row crop will. If the HU was made for taller crops in wide rows (front axle straddles the row) I don't think it will accept front mount cultivators which were popular in that day. I bought the tractor because it is relatively rare (400+ built) and the price was right--but I would like for someone to tell me what the advantage of the 350 and 460 HU's are over the rowcrops with a WF.

It provides row crop clearance with minimal overhead clearance. According to Guy Fay, the main purpose was for shade tobacco.

Observe that the Farmall 240 and 340 are similar to a high utility.

That makes sense, I forgot about tobacco. I don't know how my 460 got into western KS, though.
