voltage regulator 12 volt

goes to Armature post on generator

Four terminals on regulator are:
F Field to field post on generator

Bat to ammeter and then to battery

L Load goes to input of ignition and/or light switches

A or Gen to Armature on generator

Yeppers (post below) and it seems MOST 4 terminal (BAT LOAD FLD GEN/ARM) Voltage Regulators have the GEN/ARM either off on one corner all by itslef or else underneath. If hidden underneath hard to get to I tell people to Polarize by jumping from BAT on VR direct down to the Gennys ARM post. The 3 terminal (BAT FLD GEN/ARM) VR"s that dont have the LOAD terminal feed lights and ignition instead from the ammeters Load (NOT to battery/starter) side terminal...

Usually BAT LOAD and FLD (or BAT FLD LOAD) are together side by side and labeled while GEN or ARM (sometime no label) is underneath. Bob M and Jimbo are smarter then me on practical hands on stuff although Im knee deep in theory lol
