I have an old 1 pt disc. I guess it has a lot of dried up grease in it because it is very difficult to grease. Is it a problem to take the gang apart to scrape out the old stuff?

If it was mine I would heat up the grease areas then let it cool then try to grease it. A lot of time doing it that way will melt the old grease and in turn let it flow out so you can then grease it

You could buy what is called a grease buster. I think TSC sells them. You fill a container with your favorite panther pee and place it on the grease fitting and hit it with hammer which forces the penetrating oil in the fitting and driving out all the dirt and hard caked grease so that it will take grease. I don't have one, but I have been told it wyrks good.

I am with Old. Invest in a $9.95 propane soldering torch. Should be enough to do the whole thing. A little heat, then "pump 'er up".

I do that all the time with older fittings that I am not going to dismantle. Works well. Just make sure you start with a "clean" fitting. Also, make sure the check ball is working, and not stuck "open" and filled with grit. If that is the case, replace the fitting before proceeding.
