Brakes on Super A

Remove the final drives and the bands are rite there. I remove the wheel then use a cherry picker to remove the final as its heavy. Important to have the chassis secured to keep it secure. You will want a cherry picker as the drivers whell has the cast center and is very heavy. If the seals are leaking the outer ones can be replaced by removing the drum and taking the diff shaft out thru by removing the plate on the final.. Mite also be a good time to replace the lube in the final by removing the bottom housing on the final then replace with 90wt thru the plug located at the bottom of the finaljust above the pan you removed to replace the lube.

It"s not too bad of a job. you have to remove the drop housings to get to them. The right side is between the drop housing and the axle housing, and the left is between the tranny and the drop housing. I usually remove the tire and center, then take the bolts out and slide the housing and axle out of the tranny. Just be carefull of the seals and actually is a good time to look at them and replace as needed. The housing is heavy, if you have a lift or a friend available see of you can have them help. Check the new brake bands over good too, I had a new one come apart in the middle of winter while i was plowing on my Super A. Fourtunatly it didn"t bind up but I had to pull it all back apart to fix it. Good luck.

I used an engine hoist to remove my A final drives. It worked slick as snot on a doorknob. I only wish I had a cherry picker!
