At 25 miles north of Boston, I am in the bull's eye. All the TV stations are storm reporting round the clock. There is an expectation that this might be the fifth worse, or better, Nor-Easter since records have been maintained. I believe this goes back to around 1860.

24"+ snow. A couple of areas are forecast for 30".

Winds to 70-75 mph on the coast.

$500 dollar fine if caught on any road without an approved exemption. (Snowplows and emergency personnel). This hasn't happened since 1978.

Astronomical high tides with the new moon. There will be houses swept out to sea at 10PM tonight or 11AM tomorrow. The tide tomorrow will be higher but the wind direction will be less damaging. (How come all these coastal storms hit with a new or full moon?)

Don"t expect a power outage as the temps are low and the snow is dry. Its blowing around and not sticking to anything. May be some roof and side wall damage due to drifting.

Just heard that the wet snow and wind south of Boston has caused 500,000 outages. Nuke plant at Plymouth is also down but won't meltdown like the ones in Japan two years ago.

Picture from another storm:

IIRC I am pretty close to Zach, he lives a little north of me. So far we have gotten 4 to 6 inches. Actually not really even snowning right now. It is the wet mealy stuff that is pretty slick though. At this point I expect no more than a foot, probably less.

I had not noticed until this winter that the weather service is naming these winter storms. When did that start? I know they name tropical storms and hurricanes. Names or not, hope you don't get as much wind or snow as they have been guessing.

The weather service does not name winter storms. The Weather Channel decided to start naming them as of last October.

Murray,
I remember you NS people like that Bluenose Rum. I bet the liquor stores did a lot of business the last couple of days. We have 10 inches of snow and high temps of 25 lately.
I am going to the Ontario plowing match in Sept, any chance of you being there?

Hi Lowell, I have been thinking about the IPM in Ontario. The N.S. Antique Engine & Tractor Assoc. is involved with display's during the Windsor Exhibition. There schedule is the week-ends of Sept. 13 &14 , 20 &21. I still would like to be there and do have it in my plans. We did drive to Ontario last Aug. for a week. (nice and warm, we are in a really cold day's of winter) Cheers, Murray

I don't know how badly he will get hit being in the western part of NY state. We on the other hand could get hammered here in northeast CT.They figure around 2 feet should fall in our area with blizzard conditions later today.

Vito is right, I am not expecting much here. I am by the east end of Lake Ontario and our weather events are often out of sync with the rest of the area because of the lake. I hope all the folks further east will be okay.

Oldiron29,

Hang in there buddy. Spring is coming. I heard some blue jays singing today. Cardinals should start pretty soon.

I'm betting you have an IH tractor ready to move the snow out of the way.
