I was thinking about getting some pistons for a gas 282 and putting them in my 263 block without using sleeves. What do I do about the top lip cutout? Any help will be appreciated. doorman

Rings are machined to be a medium press fit into the block, and just a few thousandtha smaller in ID than the bore. they should stick out of the block about .004" They can be made from mild steel as there is virtually no wear at that point. When installed, the rings are then machined and honed to the piston fit. Jim

Over the years I have redone several 263s that had C301 pistons put in the sleeve bore, none of them worked well in the long run.

Had to bore the block for 291 sleeves to get the engines back in shape.

(quoted from post at 21:05:20 02/07/13) A 282 is a diesel engine.

The D282 is a diesel engine. IH also made a C282 gasoline engine. It was not used in tractors but a few combines used it.
