90# oil color

I'm restoring a 53 Super C. Pulled the diff. plug today and drained the oil. Normally, if there water in the oil (anywhere) the water will come out first and then whatever oil. Mixed up, that oil will be a whitest color. The oil that I removed today was a cream color with no water coming first. The C has been sitting in the same spot for the last month and the water should have seperated by this time. The question: Has anybody seen gear oil of this color before or has it just mixed well enough that the heavy oil will not release the water, but has changed the color? It looks clean and with the price of oils today, I would like to reuse it.
Thanks, Wayne

Most tractors that have been used and have not had the transmission oil changed in several years will have that color oil. Hydraulic oil will do the same thing. There can also be water underneath the mixture as you said. Mixed with water it is not clean, Replace it, a C is not like an M that uses 13 gallons.

i put about three gallons of diesel after i drain out the old gear oil drive it a few mins then drain the diesel out over night then fill with gear oil 4 3/4 gallons without belt pulley 5 gallons with belt pulley

A drained a transmission once of what looked about like what you described. It was dirty cream colored with no water at the bottom. I don't know what the oil started out as, likely to have been 30+ year old Hytran. I put it in a couple plastic milk jugs and left it. It was a couple menths before there was any visible change and a full year before it completely separated. After that, it was nearly 50% water.

Oil is going in the used oil barrel. Have enough rust problems here in W. Wash. on the outside without adding to the problem on the inside.
Thanks to all. Wayne
