I am having a problem with the govenor on my 706 gas. when you open up the throtle it winds up then the rpm"s drop way down,it will then stableize, but then when you put a load on it the rpm"s drop way down and it"s real lazy on gov. response. I took the gov apart but every thing looked ok,however the buffer spring floats back and forth on the fork,is this normal? I adjusted the rod to the carb but did not try the the buffer screw adjustment beyond about one turn in,thanks,Al

i got a governor off a 200 farmall gas engine that people say with pick up the throttle response of the governor. was going to put on a 301 puller engine but sold the tractor. take 75 for it plus shipping

that is not a 200 farmall tractor it is a C200 4 cylinder engine in a 544 that is the 4 cylinder version of the 221-301 gas

Probably a worn thrust bearing. They have to be really good to work properly. Weights and pins of course have to be in good shape but even new they are not really tight. Link from governor to carb has to be set properly, throttle wide open, butterfly on carb wide open, adjust clevis to just that length, loose pin, no pressure. Bumper spring has to be firm on fork to work. Adjust screw in so no surge at mid rpm but still able to idle way down slow. The carb bushing and shaft also wear bad in those . Also, make sure the nut on end of shaft is tight as there is no key driving the gov shaft. I have seen them get pretty wild when that nut was not tight.
