Is it possible to find tractor serial # if casting # and Engine serial # is available Casting # 10 8 J Engine # faa81088 Tractor serial # plate under seat is missing

Randy thanks!! would you agree that the tractor is a 1946 year of mfg.The casting # is J which indicates 1946,this I found on the frame between the engine and differential. 10 8 J.Thanks Again Barney

Barney, Your tractor could be a 1941 (J is the code letter for 1940 not 1946) as the cast parts are not installed the day they are cast. Being cast on October 8, 1940 it is most likely that part wasn't mated with others on the tractor for a couple or more months.
I have a 1951 Farmall M which has casting dates beginning in October 1950 and running through early March 1951 and the chassis s/n indicates it was an early April 1951 tractor. Hope this makes sense to you, Hal.

On the left side of this page there is a link under Research & Info called Serial Numbers where you can find the year.

Randy

For a Farmall A, 81088 is a very early 1942. The casting of 10/8/1940 is possible but not likely as the serial and the casting number are about 15 months apart. You might recheck the numbers and also see if you can find casting numbers on other parts, although the A and B did not have many numbers, or so I have read. Perhaps the block got "lost" for a year before the serial was stamped.

HAL; Thanks!!! I might be reading these serial # wrong. On these serial # on the left side of this page 1942 numbers start at 80739 my serial # is FAA-81088 this number is on the engine. When satisfied that the number is correct,is there a chance to have another serial plate made to replace the one that is missing.THANKS!!! Barney, Yes there are several sources where a replacement chassis serial number id plate can be obtained. The usual IHC parts places like Steiners, OEM, etc. where either a blank or a stamped one are offered for sale. For my restored tractors I have always gotten them from the Dieners but they are probably the most costly at around $80. Bob has passed away but his wife has continued supplying them. Her phone contact in Morgantown, WV is three zero four five nine nine four zero two seven, Hal.
