Farmall H Transmission Noise

I have a Farmall "H" and in 5th gear the transmission really whines loud. It seems to be coming from the front center of the transmission housing. Can any one tell me what this may be?
I'm thinking it's either the pinion bearing or main shaft bearings. I've never had on apart.

I can't seem to think what would cause it to whine in 5th and not in other gears, it seems like 5th uses the fewest moving parts of any gear. If you want used parts I have one complete H transmission and parts of a couple of others still on hand.

Probably doesn't include your problem, but 5th has a very distinct sound, a low hum. You already know this if you have had the tractor for a while and ran it in 5th before the problem.

It's probably coming from the pinion/ring gear. The transmission is actually making noise in all gears, but you only hear it in 5th on account of the much higher RPMs.

Most likely cause is misaligned gear mesh from worn bearings. But it also could also be from improper pinion mesh adjustment when the transmission was assembled, or simply (unlikely) the ring/pinion have worn out.
