Generator leaking oil

My generator always leaks oil after I oil it, especially out the rear. I took it off the tractor today and took a good look at it. Is there supposed to be a weep hole for the oil to drain out the bottom of the rear bushing cover? Is the front the same?

Thanks,
Dan

There are no seals on the bushings. 2-3 drops of oil is all it takes.

If you get the oil on the commutator it will carbon up. possibly catch fire. It can also soften the varnish on the windings and cause a short. Attract dirt/dust. List goes on.

2-3 drops every 30 days.

if you put 1 drop in should have 0 drops leaking out. generatore are different, some have a felt to catch the oil, some just a brass bushing. biggest thing just lightly oil the bushings.

Is there supposed to be a drain or weep hole on that back cover? Mine has a hole. I only put in a few drops, but it leaks all over out the back.

There isn't oil all over under the commutator/brush cover.

there should be a small felt in the oiler hole. Yes, I believe there should also be a weep hole opposite the oiler as well.

2-3 drops to saturate the felt. no more.

Take the 3 screws out & remove that cover. See if there is a long round felt wick in there. If not, get one put in.

Well I took the back cover off and everything is in place. It looks like the gasket was bad and what was leaking.

Thanks,
Dan
