finally got the old md running and drove it around the yard. loved the heisler od,it really makes up for the gap between the standard 4th and 5th gear. but found out a bearing must have failed in the rear case and a ball must have went between the bull gear and case.it is broken and been repaired. so we go to plan b.i have a 1941 md sn.28106 that those heisler gears are going in.thanks again for the info.

If I understand you you have a running/usuable MD with a Heisler o.d. and now you find the rear case hase been repaired.? Now you want to go to the expense of putting that Heisler o.d. into another M? iF THAT REPAIR is not badly leaking I would leave it in the tractor and use it. A lot of those old Ms have had the rear caces repaired and no problems. Use it and enjoy!

An M with a repaired/patched rear end case is not unusual at all. I would just leave it alone. It is a part of that tractors history.

I too have a Farmall MD I bought in 1966 with a repaired case. I have been using it for 40+ years and have had no proplems with it. I also would leave it if it isn't leaking much. Al
