Super m engine build

Guys I have a super m that I'm rebuilding. I want to hop it up some, I bought a carb, governor, electronic dist from Dennys Carb shop, Thats another story,,,, Had all this stuff on the tractor and a head gasket started to leak, so I pulled the motor out and it's now at the engine shop. I want to put high compression pistons in, what about the cam? Will a stock cam be fine or does someone make a better cam for what I want to do? and if so who's the best to go to? or what other things can I do to have a real good running Super M

I believe a 450 cam is ground differently and will add HP.(Others will know the details of it on here.)

And stay away from Denny's!!! (TOO many bad reports on here,(and RPM) about that shop!!!!!

Modifications are limitless,if you want to spend the money? ;)

A 450 cam will help and a 450 head would too. 450 gas is better than yours and a 450 lp would be alot better. It would make a big differece too if you can dyno it and get it tuned to its best possible set-up.

Ditto on Denney's reputation. High compression pistons are certainly a good choice. 450 cam, or a competitive regrind can be expensive but add hp. Premium fuel is needed if any of these are used.
Compression pressure over 160 in a slow turning engine can be devastating. Advance limitation and proper curving of the centrifugal advance is really important. If you intend to farm with it, be modest in your modifications or you will build a fire cracker. Jim

Hey, Denny's beat me up, years ago! I've a set of 3/4" tall pop-top firecrater pistons I just took out of a Super M, they are 4&1/8 bore. Thse would give you plenty of compression. They need rings, but those are still available. If interested just reply, Thanks, Deerslayer...

(quoted from post at 08:00:20 01/20/13) Try the "Pulling" board.

For what? Egos, bashing, and people that won't help because you might be their competition someday? Not a big fan...

Dennys,

Carb leaked, Altenator top bracket would no way shape or form fit the engine, distributor pickup was shorted out on the plate! Then when I called them they treated me like dirt!

(quoted from post at 12:41:41 01/20/13) I have Never used it. Appears you did :)

I used to check it out all the time. Then it got a little old. RPM will give you some decent info, but there are a always a few...preservationists...who view tractor pulling as a waste of a good tractor. From most of what I have seen the really built pullers are super common models or junk that was resurected.

Sounds pretty standard, but we always like more.
