IH B-450 Excessive Diesel Out Exhaust FIXED!! WIth Pics

I posted earlier this week about my B-450 that was smoking terrible and had raw diesel out exhaust. I bought this tractor from a older man who used it right up to the time it was retired. It has been setting 10+ years. Went through the engine, rebuilt the injectors, and cleaned and re sealed the pump( did not take it off the tractor) Well it started easy and had 325 psi compression on all 4 Timing on pump made no difference. Im a decent mechanic but this thing wore me out. Here is the problem The drive coupler on the injection pump has one small 3/8 notch that the driver fits into. At some point this broke allowing the pump to turn about 45-50 degrees. Timing was retarded so far that it was injecting diesel on the exhaust stroke. Im still not sure how it started so easy. Next time dont always believe what you hear. I know now why the tractor was retired!!! She runs good now though and NO SMOKE

It looks brass but its actually steel I ground a vee and tig welded it myself, then machined it back in my lathe. Parts for this thing cannot be found. I hope it lasts
 
Well, I did suggest late timing, not that late though, along with a lot of other wild ideas. Good to hear you figured it out and skilled enough to do the repairs yourself.
 
I always like when people come back to show the actual problem. Too many keyboard mechanics think they solved the issue when no one replies with the real solve. Kudo's! :lol:
 
Well done Fraizer, living this side of the pond I have had afair bit to do with these tractor but never herd of this one. They were built at Doncaster here in the UK and because of the method of starting them and the smoke on start up they got called Doncaster disasters. Good tractors, have fun with it. MJ

I would be very interested in a engine/fuel system manual and a operators manual. I don't know what good a parts manual would be since I have not been able to find any parts specifically for this machine anyways
 
* in UK. Would you know where I might find some injection pump parts for this tractor. I need one pump assembly. Its the CAV in line model. The pump, cylinder, spring and keeper. I broke one on disassembly cause it was seized so bad. I again welded it up and machined it. But I do not trust it at all as a long term repair.
