1086 lift question

our 1086 3 point lift will leak down about 2 inches then raise back to the set position unless the draft lever is set about mid range then it works fine ,what would normally cause this condition worn control linkages or adjustment,is this a common problem, would like to know what might be causing the problem before i attempt to go through the adjustment procedures and possibly miss the problem

Does it leak all the way down when engine is shut off. If it does, you have a internal leak, most likely piston. If it only leaks down part way and stops, the drop setting is too close or drop check valve is sticky from swollen o-ring. I assume you have the older open center hydraulic system. If not, all bets are off.
