Part Washing Fluid

Recently purchased a parts washing cabinet for my shop and was trying to figure out what type of solvent is the best to use. I've been told kerosene and mineral spirits are some options, but just kinda looking for some input. What have you guys found to work the best.

Thanks

Like he said, Safety Kleen. We tried a water based cleaner in our wash stands at work one time. That stuff was worthless. You can also go to an auto parts store like Napa and they have solutions for wash stands.

I posted about this awhile back too. I have tried different stuff, and have settled on a mix of diesel and mineral spirits. It is cheaper and works good for me, but you gotta wear gloves or it dries out your hands and makes them kinda white/chalky. Safety Kleen is great, and dries off better, but pricey. Others will differ I am certain. Just what works for me...

Before puting dirty parts in a parts washer, brush them with E-85. It is the best cleaner available and cheap.

DO NOT smoke when doing any cleaning with E-85!

I have used mineral spirits for 20 years in mine. I know if you buy the chemicals for Northern Handyman be prepared for the pump to go out within the month.

Thanks for the input guys. i'll have to check with the NAPA here in town and see what they have available. Where is the best spot to look for that safety kleen. are there local dealers for that or is it all online.

I use mineral spirits and purchase it from my local oil co. Work real good and was about $7 a galon this past fall . Add some ATF to make it easy on the hands. stumper
