Chain points

I'm trying to decide on the safest way to secure my M on a deckover. Plan is to go with 2 chains attached to shackles (with threaded bolts) which are attached to the drawbar.

On the front I'm either going to shackles (the same) attached to the front bolster plate or thinking each frame rail might even be better.

How do you guys hook to the M frame rails, is there a way to add shackles? Would like it to look "finished"

Pictures anyone??

thanks

First of all you do not want to attatch to the drawbar as the DOT has the theory that the drawbar might away from the tractor. for the front I would bolt an attatchment point to the frame siderails. Also all attatched implements must have seperate tie chains. Best to check with your local State Police. Armand

well myself i go behind the ft. post over the ft. tires and two chains over the axles in a half hitch with a binder on each side and one chain with clevis and pin in the drawbar for hold back.I would rather scratch up some PAINT from chains then have it come off and kill somebody . In all the years that i have hauled equipment and machinery i had two try and come off the trailer . One was a 68000 lb tire press that the MFg made me put down visqueen and OILED the base ( to prevent rust in shipment and a 52000 Lb Grade all when i had to make a panic stop . The tire press was tied down with 10 3/8ths G70 chains and slid on the oiled base the grade all snapped two 3/8ths G70 chains holding it back. The other six kept it from coming all the way off as it still had half a tire holing it on the trailer. NOW with the new rules the tire press requires 15 chains and the grade all need 12 chains PLUS 60 percent HOLD back. Sometime ya just don't have enough places to put chains. And one other pooint here if something wants OFF the trailer ya aint ah going to hold it there.

I have used the same system for many years with no problems. Bear in mind, the heaviest of my tractors weighs about 3500#. I make a U shaped loop of 3/8 x 2 steel that fastens to each frame rail just behind the front wheels. In the rear I add a 3/8" thick plate to the drawbar with a hole in it big enough to accomodate 2 chain hooks. Normally the drawbar is designed to be the strongest attachment point on the tractor. Then I use a chain and binder at each of the 4 corners to hold it to the trailer. I paint the attachment points the same as the tractor so the appearance isn't damaged. I use the same method on my Allis B, John Deere B's, and Farmall H.
email if you want photos.

Here what i made out of 3/4 plate for the front. It gets cross chained front to back off them and then cross chained off the insides of back axle forward

"Threads will break..."

EVERYTHING is bolted to the tractor in some way shape or form. No matter what you wrap a chain to it is held on with bolts, and could get torn off the tractor.

So, by your logic we shouldn't be hauling tractors at all?
