Replacement stepped pistons

I ordered a sleeve and piston kit. I have stepped pistons. Well, this is what I received. There is not another option. There was either stepped, or flat top pistons. Will this replacement work? I am thinking it will but, anyone replace stepped pistons with one like this?

Don't worry about it, a high top piston is what it is, as long as it won't hit the head it doesn't matter what the top is shaped like, dome, step, wedge, maybe a raised dinosaur fossil shape, don't matter, as long as it occupies more space than the flat-top. Piston-wise anyway, you will be fine!

Thats what a lot of aftermarket pistons are made like now. Other piston options can be had for some, depending on what engine you have.
Old piston looks to be a fire crater piston. New one is what the aftermarket sells to replace them in some IH engines. Not all though.
Put step piston in the search box farmall forums. Click on date 12-29-12 my name top or neartop of page. See piston pictures.

There are lots of options as to hi-dome but the ones you have will work just make sure you have the dome placed correct on the rod so it clears the head. You didnt say what engine your are repairing.

I have used these before and they do work. The only thing i caution you on is once you have the engine totally assembled and ready to start . ROLL THE ENGINE OVER BY HAND TO MAKE SURE NOTHING HITS! I have never had one hit but I always check to be safe. GOOD LUCK!

will do!

those look like conformatic pistons that tractor supply used to sell. they will work but they aren't as good as firecrater or m+w pistons and yes the shape of the dome does matter powerwise.

I have them in my AV and it makes pretty good power! They cleared the stock head with no problem! But it never hurts to check!
