determine year of my 140 with engine casting?

Yes, no problem.

Look for a cast-in code in the form of "2 * 4 * D". The * is actually the imprint of a phillips head screw.

First digit is the day, second digit is month, and letter is year.

Start with A as 1955, and work up from there.
D indicates 1958, the first year for a 140 AFAIK.

Casting number on the block is 91242.

This is on my F300, the top number is a part number, the bottom is what the casting code looks like:

Translates to January 24th 1954

As Jim said, that is the engine SN, not the cast code. But, the engine SN can also date the engine, with yours rolling off the line in March of 1961. Chassis SN "should" be between 12250 and 12683 (in a perfect world).
