BEST TWO ROW CORN PLANTER

Dad always prefered IH planters over JDs, but I forget the reason. His brother had a JD and when Dad went to help him when my uncle was sick, he really cussed the JD. Had something to do with the plates, but don't recall exactly what it was.
Sad thing is, when Mom finally left the farm, there was a like new IH planter in the corner of the barn that she just left for the people that bought the buildings and 40 acres.

THANKS FOR HEADS UP TIM.I''LL ONLY BE PLANTING 2 ACRES OF CORN.
For my sweet corn patch I use this one. My dad cut down his 50's era IH 4 row to a 2 row when he retired from farming thirtysome years ago.

The rubber press wheels realy do a better job of packing the soil they are wider and solid tread so everything gets firmed up. They mite be hard to find as of course they were extra cost but they sure did a fine job. Some 290s do have a pretty good price tag so its hard to find one with a reasonable price tag good luck

normally i am red clean thru , BUT when it comes to a good old corn planter i like my old JOHN DEERE 1240 plateless No messing with ah what plate do i need . It is now just how many plants to the acre do i want to stuff into this field. amd how much fertilizer do i want to put down. zip the string off the bag and dump it in and go plant corn at 4 MPH and IF the buzzer goes off then ya stop to see why the buzzer went off.

I sure like my IH Farmall C251. It was cheap and plates are easy to find. I'm planting less than an acre so spending thousands for a really good modern one was not acceptable to me.

Here's my planter - not sure of the number but was lucky enough to even get an owners manual with them.

I'll definitely throw a vote to the JD 290 also. We fit ours with hydraulic markers and use it every spring behind the Farmall H for our sweet corn. The old girl works like a clock!
