Super C exhaust temp.

Jan or anyone else, I was wondering if you have ever put a tempature gun on the exhaust pipe of a C engine. I am still thinking about putting an air/fuel mixture gauge on my Super C. The instructions say it has to be over 600 deg's to work. Before I spent the money I wanted to make sure the pipe it goes on was hot enought. Thanks.

You are way over thinking this. The tractor puts out about 25HP at 1500rpm. My lawn mower puts out 25hp at 3600rpm. The only way you can really hurt one is running it very lean, screw the jet all the way in, and turn it out two turns. These things were built for farmers who still had mules and did not have a clue how to work on them. They are pretty idiot proof(mine still runs:)

The gauge will work. The temp will likely be in the 800 to 950 range working pretty hard. It won't tell you much until an exhaust valve burns really bad. then it will get to 1200 or so.
The engine carb is not adjustable for high speed load mixture. It is a fixed jet carb. If for decoration do it if for diagnostics, a laser hand held unit is far more like a tool, and can be used on 1000 things. Jim
