B 414 brakes

What makes the brake freeze up on the disc brakes? I bought a b414 recently with one wheel locked up solid. Loosened up the bolts on the cover and gave it a tap with a hammer and it immediately freed up. haven't started up the beast yet to see if it will lock up again when it is applied when being driven. Is there supposed to be something that needs lubing? I have the parts manual and see there are balls in there that roll up ramps I think. I'm a lot more familiar with Massey Ferguson tractors than IH.

Those brakes use a internal expanding disc actuator and if the balls get corroded they can stick, also if they're extremely worn they can stick. If it does it again you'll need to tear it down and see what's wrong with it. Sam

Hi Phil, IIRC the brakes will lockup going forward as the brakes are self energizing as the forward motion will cause the rollers to roll up the ramp more. Usually if you put tractor in REV and backup the brakes will release BUT if rollers and ramps are dirty, rusted or worn, the rollers may stick on the ramps.
