Is it possible to have a double action cylinder setup on a h without putting a spool valve control on? Thanks for the help

if you use the cylinder as a one way, with a vent/filter in the non pressure end, but it will be power up gravity down.
This diagram is the way to do it with a open center spool valve. Jim

No. But you can use a double action cylinder with gravity down by putting a vent instead of a hose in the down connection.
