B414 Gas hydraulic oil

Hello, would like to know what grade of hydraulic fluid to use for my B414 hydraulics. A service manual I have says use 30wt motor oil. sort of confusing as I thought I would need hydraulic fluid.

Hi, you are correct Op Manual said 30wt oil but non-detergent or it will foam. In the early 1960s when B414 was new, I don't even know if Hytran hydraulic fluid was available then. We used 30wt in our B414 and then later in the 1960s when we added a 434 tractor we started using Hytran in everything. We drained and replaced 30Wt in B414 with Hytran.
