Bacon shortage?

News media is saying there will be a bacon shortage next year as farmers sell off pigs because of the drought and effect on corn. Can"t see the problem from my place. This picture was taken about a month ago. The bacon process gets started this next weekend.

My (hopeful) hog surplus starts Jan 8th. I have one due per month until March. I am already way overstocked on finished pigs. I finished 16 from my summer litters and only have about four sold.

On the side...if anybody needs a purebred Berkshire in N IL or S WI just let me know.

(quoted from post at 09:04:26 12/31/12) pork from those confinements taste terrible.city people dont know the differance.wish i could find a old fashion raised hog

I will sell you one of my Berks. They aren't feed low level antibiotics or Paylean. I actually rarely need to treat one with any antibiotics. I sell them for $225 for a whole hog or $125 for a half. I will take it in and you can pick it up frozen. Actually they UPS really well in the winter. You just pack them tight in a box and they would ship to Iowa overnight.
