Yellow 1947 Farmall H

I recently bought a yellow 1947 H. I had not seen a yellow H before this one. The paint's well worn and tired. It has a 3 point and a loader, and it's all the same hue. I believe the entire tractor was painted at the same time. In some spots under the yellow I can see some red, (mainly on the motor and frame). But in other places it looks like yellow only. (Scratches head) I assume it was an old state or hiway tractor. It's a good running tractor and I'm thinking about just restoring the paint and tin.

So I guess the question is go back with yellow or go to beautiful red? Advice?

(I'll try to get a pic on here soon)

My vote is Yellow. Why not. It may have been that color from the factory. IH would do a variety of colors if ordered that way. I like the being different component. Jim

Your choice. If you see red under the yellow, it was likely red from the factory. Some highway depts, etc did their own painting after they received the tractor, but it is whichever color you want. There are no rules.

heres another yeller one. 42 H i bought for my dad about 6 years ago. under the yellow its OD green

Yes, I'd like to see it. The paint used around that time frame red faded to yellow. I have seen red tractors that look very yellow.

The yellow or orange tint was started due to a shortage of red after WWII. Guy Fay says the original red was started again in April 1947--he must be correct because my dad had a late 1947 H that did not fade to yellow by 1955 when it was overhauled and repainted by the dealer.

My account is very new, less than a week old. I was able to post 6 pics on here. We had M for about 2 weeks, old man only wanted fenders off rear. Then sold it to neighbour, had same yellow coming thru the red. He is IH nut, said samething about whatever was done to the paint in that/those certain yrs.

Alright, it looks like I can get the pics on here now.

The decals look original. As does the silver on the rims. I don't believe a municipalty would have sprayed it yellow then gone through the trouble (cost) and applied the stickers, but i may be wrong. It also has the wheel weights, everything is the same shade of yellow.

It has pretty clearly been repainted at least once. The decals are replacements. I don't see anything in those pictures to indicate it has ever been anything other than yellow. You can no doubt see things in person that don't show in the pictures.
