That engine--a 180 degree two cylinder kohler, right? Have you had problems with the magnets coming loose from the inside of the flywheel, thus disabling the charging system? Anybody else have this problem? I tried gluing them back on, but they won't stay glued. A new flywheel with magnets is almost 500 bucks--I am depressed! Any thoughts?

Give Ray Weaver a call 717-587-3727 or Rob Houltz at 630-365-6551 They'll sell you a used one for 100. if thats any good to you. I haven't had this one running yet, to see if its charging or not. Kent

I got an awesome Christmas gift! I bought a 450 that was sitting inside for many years being sold as a 400 because someone had put 400 sheetmetal on it. It was putting water in the oil. As I expected it had a cracked head. It has the cornpicker mounts and the head lights turned up so it was no surprise to find a cracked head. I bought it because of the 281 engine and it has an M&W governor and factory power steering. When I took it apart it has a 4.25" bore and the crankshaft says M&W Gear on it. Merry Christmas!!!

I just got off the phone with Mr. Weaver, I'm about to go buy a money order for LESS than 100, including shipping and handling! Thanks! hugh

Good timing Jim. Looks like another storm heading your way for the weekend. Wish PEI could get a snow storm or two. We keep getting rain. not fair. LOL Kent

I used a JD 212 with a mower on it for several years, same as yours except 2 hp less (the 12 or 14 indicate HP). Worked fine except not manuverable in tight quarters. I particularly like the lever on the right side which is sort of a poor man's hydrostat, allows variable speed in all gears.

Boy I scored big, my wonderful wife and daughter got me a very nice Craftsman tool storage rollaway filled with an excellent set of Craftsman tools. My tractor shed is quite a distance (200 yards) from the shop here by the house. I always have had to run back and forth for tools when working on my tractors before. She (with my help) found a 200+ piece set of SAE only tools (no metric items) as my Farmalls don't use them along with a nice set of 8 point sockets. Very few screwdriver bits and allen wrenches to boot. Along with the Sears gift cards I will be able to outfit my tractor shed with a complete working set of tools. Santa was good to this old fella, Hal.

That is pretty standard for that engine/series. Go to Weekend Freedom Machines for your JD GT questions. That place is almost better than this one!!! I have read about guys glueing them back on.

(quoted from post at 15:42:42 12/27/12) Your right abour the turning radius. Its not tight. Fixing it up beats watching TV LOL Kent

But didn't it have independent brakes? That is invaluable on my 318.

I always get low T around the winter solstice. I'm pretty well recovered around the spring equinox.

My better half sprung for 2 brand new Firestone 6.50 x 20 tires for my 1949 KB5. Looks like Bessie got new shoes! That takes care of the front, now I need 4 for the rear.

I gave myself a gift this year. 3 weeks ago went to an estate auction and bought a TH54 Atlas 10" lathe and tooling. I got tired of paying through the nose to have parts made......now I gotta learn how to use it.

My KB-5 runs 7.50 x 20 on the front. Might want to check if your tires are an option.

Wardner, unknown if they were standard or an option. The tires that are currently on the front are 6.50 x 20. The rears dually's are 8.25 x 20. She just ordered what was on it to begin with. Since this is going to be a show girl, and most it will have on it is an F-30, I think I should be fine with the 6.50s I will put the 8.25's on the rear when I replace those.
