WD9 tires and wheels

I recently purchased a WD9 that had been in the family years ago. It is in good shape and looks good, but the rear tires are getting dry rotted and the rims are rusty from having been loaded for so long. It has 16.9-34 tires on it now, but I was thinking about putting 18.4-34 tires on it and maybe some wider rims too. Has anyone tried this combination on their W-9 or WD-9? Will larger tires and rims fit inside my fenders? The rims appear to be the drop center type like the ones on my H or M, but I haven't seen this size in any of my parts catalogs, if they will fit, does anyone know where to find them? Thanks for your help!

18.4's will fit 15" rims. There is lots of room at the fenders. You should be able to find good rims 15 X 34 at salvage yards. I have them on my WD9, SWD9 and others

You must have had soom very big chains, I bought a WD9 this fall that had a loader on it and still had the chains on it. There is enough room to run chains

My 18.4s are pretty tight. I know WOpp knows A LOT more about these big machines that I do, but mine were tight. I am going back to 16.4s. I think it might have to do with how the rims are made. I would guess when you start getting that wide the offset will start playing a role. Mine are right in the middle IIRC, but WOpps might be towards the inside. I am just thinking out loud, I could be way off.

Here are some shots of mine with 18.4s. Looking at the pictures there is quite a bit of clearance. I thought I remembered less, but pictures don't lie. I would guess mud could pack in there pretty good!

I would measure now, but that might be tough. It is actually stripped a lot further than that right now. WOpps is waiting for me to figure out which brake activator I need and then he will ship a TON of parts out to me. I think I am getting close to putting things back together after that!

wow.looks like you have quite a project there. I see you have something else I want to put on WD9, live hydraulics. I haven't started looking yet, but I am going to start soon.

This is a factory system. I don't remember what year, but the 9s got live hyd way earlier than the letter series.

WOpp might have that setup for you. He lives in 9 country and has access to quite a few parts.

Just for the hell of it I went looking at WD9 wheels that I have had chains on. If you use 15 x 34 rims with offset drop center your 18.4 will have room for truck style chains which is what I have used. If you are going to use the 14 x 34 with drop center no offset and 16.9 tires they will run close but light truck chains will work. If you need to run real heavy duty chains find a set of 16 x 34 rims with mounting lugs off a 600 or 650 and 18.4 tires will work with room to spare.

Remember what the problem was with chains. Dad had extened the fenders for the cab. It was an IHC cab.Ha Ha. 1954 IHC pickup.

My Dad had three inches welded into the rims when he put 18.4-34 to replace the 16.9-34 that were on the tractor when he bought it.
