Must I split engine from tranny to replace rear main, IH 404

I'm putting new rings, rod and main bearing and a gasket kit in my C135 engine in the 404. I read somewhere that the rear main cap won't come off without splitting the engine from the transmission. Is this true?

No way around it? Thanx in advance. RD

caseih.com search for parts has layouts for components. Yes it is a full circle seal in a bolt on housing behind the flywheel. Jim

Thank you. I think I'll wait and put the new rear main and seal in when I put the clutch in, by the spring time.

Thanx. BTW, the mains looked good, but since I'm putting new rings and rod bearings in it, I'm replacing them too. Lots of people told me to put the old bearings back in, but I'm not gonna do that.

Looks to me like you can take that back lower plate
off same as we always did on a C. Have to take those
three or four bolts out between flywheel and rear
seal housing.

That's what I'm hoping. If this windstorm that's been whipping like a cyclone for the last 3 days lets up, I'll check it out.

Thanx for the help. It is appreciated. Rd
