GOT A 544 ROW CROP THAT HAS SHUTTLE SHIFT. I HAVE SEEN A FEW OTHER ONES, IS THIS AN AFTERMARKET SET UP OR IH? THE TORQUE LEVER FORWARD IS FORWARD, BACK IS REVERSE. HAS NO TORQUE. THE SHIFT PATTERN ON THE RIGHT SIDE IS STANDARD EXCEPT WHERE REVERSE NORMALLY IS THERE IS NOTHING. I HAVE 5 FORWARD AND 5 REVERSE SPEEDS.

We have a 544 gas rowcrop with the shuttle shift transmission. It is factory, but doesn't seem to be a common option. I have seen/heard of about equal parts gearshift/TA and hydro, but you are the first person I've read about that has a shuttle shift.

It is handy! Reverse is something like 10% or 15% faster than forward. We have a Farmhand 270 quick-tach loader on ours, it's great for loading/unloading hay and also cleaning manure from pens.

Anything else you need to know?

I know this topic has been in the back for quite a while, but I have run across a 544 with the forward/reverse drive, it's needed quite a bit of work, but someone has cobbled up the linkage into the center housing (causing all kinds of damage to the gears after time) and I was wondering if either of you two, or anyone else, would be able to get pictures of the linkages of the forward/reverse drive. I would GREATLY appreciate it as I cannot find anything. My email address is [email protected] if someone can help, please no spam.

Thanks, Tyler Wells

What exactly do you need pics of? Just the external linkages? I will be around the 544 in the next few days and could snap a few pics...

I just bought a 544 row crop not knowing alot about it. I was told it had a bad TA so when I got it home I split the tractor and couldn't find a TA. I also couldn't figure out why it drove funny. I couldn't figure out why sometimes it went backwards when I had the gear shift lever in a forward gear. Anyway....I know now it is a shuttle transmission. I would appreciate any tips on getting it back together....thanks so much.
