Industrial A brake replacement

The entire final drive needs to be removed to get to the brakes on this tractor. Depends on what you consider a big job, and how easily the bolts come out.

I know from changing them on an A and an SA that it can be a finger-smashing job. Be SURE TO REPLACE THE GREASE SEALS while you're at it.

Itds been covered many times. Job will go better if you have a cherry picker to remove the finals. Blocking the tractor is most important. I remove the centers and tires together so the final is easier to remove. You will want to replace both seals on each side while its apart. Thr final drive comes of in one piece. You will need to remove the brake drums to remove the diff shaft so the outer seals can be replaced. The diff shaft will come out after removing the brake drums and come out by removing the 4 bolted plate on the final drives.

It's relatively easy, but time consuming.

Just lots of nuts and bolts.

It's also one of those things where things can really only go back together one way - so don't worry about getting in over your head. The diagrams look a lot worse than what it really is.

The final drives are heavy. I did mine the hernia inducing way, and it worked fine.

It'd be a lot more pleasant using a cherry picker though. Especially when reassembling, trying to align the shafts.

It's imperative that you block the tractor properly - take a good look at where that pivot pin is on the front axle to understan how the tractor's going to want to tip, even with both front wheels on the ground - it's not so obvious unless you look at it and think it through.
