DK44H, AN IH D-414 is not an engine that does well on light loads! Idling around not really working. They are happiest at Wide Open under a heavy load Screaming at the Top of their Lungs really turning out work! So go do a days work with her (plowing, Chiseling) and see if she don;t straighten out Also they Tend to slobber oil out the exhaust too. When they have been run idling around on light duty. Get her to Full Operating Temp and hold it for a few hrs.!
IMO, I think it will Clear up after it had done some real work, not light duty kind of work. This is more of a system of Inactivity, No sustained temperature for long times, causing seals to seals to leak, carbon not to get burnt off the tips of the Injectors, Valves etc, etc, etc.
My 74, 966 is this way!
