put new bushings in, dosnt shimy no more, but did tighten steering up and realy can feel the over an inch of slop. says in the book no adjustment like in an A. true or false? thanks. gene, i will check the outer bearing thanks

There are no adjustments. You just replace worn parts and they work. That bearing on the end of the input shaft is realy important cause if it has play there will be end play and causing steering wheel "loose" play.

If you have onl;y an inch of steering wheel rim travel as slop, you are as good as it is going to get. Be happy. Jim

Just got mine on my Super C finished this weekend. As Gene told me, replace the bearing on the end of the worm gear shaft. It turns a little play into a lot of sloppy steering. Also, turn the gear on top that the worm shaft runs against 180 deg. in rotation so the worm shaft has a new place to run on. Installed new seals, I did not install the bottom one "upside down" like the manual says. I put it in lip side out or down to seal the oil in. I have driven it and for 5 days now no oil leaks. Also make sure to trial fit the plug in the front that it is screwing all the way against the ball bearing. Mine was not.

looking at the big gear, looked ok. going to put bushing and bearing, new, and seal,. question? when puting worm gear in, with yoke at the end, is ther a center for the gear to sit? if one way to much make you not steer far enough way or the other? thanks. yes, gene, the bearing had hard , ruff spots in it.

Did you check the U-joints in the steering shafts?? Seems almost all of the knuckles are worn/loose,held with nails, wire,or cotter pins, etc.Whatever was avaliable when something was lost. Most all of these tractors I see have the same looseness, for the same reasons.Like the guys mentioned, you can turn the steering worm gear 360 degrees and get new gear wearing teeth as a result. And also some looseness can be because of the worm shaft bearing and/or retaining nut being loose as well.
