6volt IH Farm Truck

Have 1940 IH truck that I use for hauling firewood. Last weekend I was driving between the woods and the house and heard an arcing noise then the truck died. Turned out the battery cable had come loose and bounced off (disconnected). Arced the post up pretty goood.
Wouldn't start again.
Have worked on it some and found the following.
- 6 volts to the coil,
- points will spark (bright blue) when I
open and close them with a screw driver
(when the lobe is set where they should be
closed)
- No spark at the plugs (best I can tell
trying to crank it with a screwdriver
jumping the starter button on the firewall.
-Testing for continuity I have continuity
from the plug inside the center of the cap
to the coil end of the coil wire.

???????????

Get a helper to turn it over and watch the points with distributor cap off. If no blue arc when points open you will have no spark. Short could have damaged coil to where it will make some arc but not enough to fire the plugs. Try changing the condensor first

Check the coil wire for fire,if the coil wire is firing, then look to the rotor and cap.

Pull the coil high voltage wire out of the distributor cap. Put it within i/8 inch of the engine block (tuck it in so you can let go of it and it will stay in place.) now with the key on, move the points from closed to open to get that blue spark at the points. If no blue spark at the coil wire to block, replace the coil. Jim

Thanks for all the help. I was ready to go to town and buy a condesor on monday.
Had put it on the charger overnight, tried it again this afternoon and it started.
Not sure why it wouldn't all week but did today. Thankful, dumped the load and parked it inside.

The battery was discharged enough to prevent sparking from low voltage when cranking, but not when stationary. No surprise there, a lead acid battery will hold good enough voltage to spark when it is lightly loaded, and drop into no spark when a 350 amp load is applied. Jim
