Need to pull flywheel to resurface. Do I need to mark this so it is remounted in the same orientation? What is the best method for removal block of wood/hammer or a puller. Thanks in advance for words of wisdom.........

Pete

IIRC,some flywheels are drilled 'off center',so it can only go on one way.The ringgear doesnt need to be removed to surface the flywheel.Since its apart, now is a good time to renew,,rotate,or flip...

Not much to it. I was able to remove by hand and yes it is heavy. The ring gear looks like new. Machine shop says they will have it ready Friday so looks like I will actually start the reassembly Saturday. Finally!

There should be a dowel. As stated it is heavy. They usually come right off. A puller for something that size would cost a small fortune.

When i took my M flywheel off I put a long 2x4 (one i used was about 3 feet long so I could hold onto it) against the side of the flywheel and gave it a couple of raps with a 3 pound hammer making sure to hit the wood and not the flywheel. I did that on both sides/top and bottom and it finally wiggled off. Be carefull, it weights a ton, you dont want to drop it on your toes. I would also suggest checking the ring gear for wear. May want to change it out while you have it all apart. good luck ~Anthony

Doesn't it have an alignment dowel?

Last flywheel I removed, I just removed the bolts and gave the flywheel a few wiggles. It came right off.
