MD Upper Bolster Bearing question

The seal in my upper bolster was leaking in my MD so we took out the shaft and have the new seal in thanks to the allthread suggestion on this board. It pulled in real nice. After we took the weight off the front end we checked the shaft for slop and the bushings seemed real tight. In cleaning up the bearing I noticed that the thrust bearing is a little loose on the shaft. It seems like it should be snug. Since I have it this far I want to make sure we do it right but the bearing seems like it is in pretty good shape. Any advise on this?

If the bushings are good, the thrust will make no difference. It has only tractor weight to support. Jim

Thanks for your help. So it sounds like the purpose of the thrust bearing is to support the weight on the front end and not really for side to side support and rotation? It kind of makes sense as with no play in the bushings the bearing really would not have much to do. I think I am probably good then. I would have just expected this to be a little more snug on the shaft than it is. There is a small round shoulder at the bottom of the shaft and the bearing also has a round bevel on it but it is still not as snug as I thought it would be.
