current farmall cub prices

I used to have a 47 cub, we had some good times together but then I traded it for a 530 case because it was bigger and a little more functional with 3pt and live power. Now I want to get a cub to mow my yard with because I like them. As I am looking around they seem to be going cheap. Is it just the season or is it the economy? Here are the 2 tractors I’m going to look at on Friday. Both with 2 snowplows and a mower for 1800. They roll over but haven't run since July. Seems like a good deal but maybe I am out of touch.

Cubs in my area are going for about $1000-$1200. If you find one that's running and ready for work at $1800, I'd say get it! Worry about making it pretty later. These things are plentiful and parts are easy to find. I love my cub and wouldn't trade it for anything!!! Enjoy your find!

I have several Cubs. Paid from $ 600 to $ 2,000 for them everyone was a good price, look at the rims and for welds in the front end.
If they will turn over, you can get them to run. Looking at the photos- I would try for the red one as it looks to have better rubber and weights. I say try to get him down to 1500-1600.

I just looked at the external_link adds for cubs the pricing is all across the board from 700.00 >12.000 so you should be able to find something in between thats good I've owned my 52 cub for 15yrs I paid plenty for it but I knew where it came from and who owned it I'm only the second owner of my cub since it was new

I went and bought them last night. Red one was trying to start but fuel was pouring out of the carb when it did fire up for a second it sounded like it had a knock in the engine. That has me worried a bit. It has a new wiring harness, new lights and a new seat, also a belt pulley take off and the moldboard plow depth control lever he didn’t mention but I don’t think he knew what they were. Yellow and white one I didn't even try but both tractors have some tar like substance in them that could pass for oil, and both have antifreeze in them. I looked real good for cracks in the block behind the steering box. Both tractors with plow blades yellow one with mower deck, a set of chains, and factory service manuals for 1500$. He says he has been advertiseing them since july and had lots of people call and tell him what a deal it is but nobody has any money. I will have to drive back down 2 hours away to get the second one tonight. Wish me luck.

Frankly tractor prices have been artificially high for a while now.

Cubs engines are notorious for losing their prime in the oil pump if they sit for too long. There is an allen head set screw on the side of the block back by the bell housing. It is to prime the oil pump. I would suggest you prime either engine and turn them over a bit with the starter with the coil wire pulled to get oil circulated through the bearing journals before attempting to start.

Just a word of caution.

i dont know, i just saw one for sale in a english magazine for 2600 pounds, im not up on the trade ratio, but last i knew that was around 6 grand american i think, personally im thinking the little cub is fixing to become real popular like the venerable N series fords, they do have their drawbacks but are a huge step better than the current box store junk when fitted with say a mower blade ect, after i bought a new box store 18hp? lawn tractor?? and it was junk in 2 years of just mowing the farm yard, [ no big hood high stuff] plus the thing gave poor quality and performance from new, then i i bought a 1949 cub, it had a plow, the factory snow blade,[ i gave 800 bucks for this thing on the condition that it had found a good home and i wouldnt just resell it, the owner had had it restored, didnt use it and couldnt take it with him when he moved] and i found a complete danco c2 mower for it, i cant believe the difference! i will never own a "lawn tractor again" the cub is a giant step up, both in build quality and performance , granted it is a old tractor and that means i have to do a little mantence to it to keep it in top shape,but that just fun stuff, as to hood high grass. as long as i take a half swath it likes it just fine too, no mowing and re mowing the stripes the box store unit leaves then having grass debris in windrows all over the place, and i figure the box store junk is going to be getting even worse as time goes on, not everybody has a postage stamp size yard that is perfect, and we're going to need something to take care of chores like that which can actually do the job, the cub does it and does it well

I was mowing with a case 222 mower and the deck bearing went, I took the deck off and was driving the tractor with the belt dragging along the ground and it sucked the belt in. belt caught the pto rod and somehow the belt and 5/16” rod wound around the engine. Crushed the covers and took all the fins off the flywheel. I decided to get a cub to mow with next year instead of throwing 300$ at the case. It’s a shame because it was a nice mower.
I think the cubs are going to become more popular over the next 20 years as the dollar continues to fall and food prices rise. I think we will see a lot of people trying to grow big gardens. But who knows.

Just because something is advertised at a high price, doesn't mean it gets sold. When something is priced fair, it sells quickly and you don't even see the ad.

I mowed with an offset style Cub LoBoy for several years, and frankly I didn't like it. After I got speared in the chest and shoulder by low-hanging branches too many times I bought a "box store" mower, sold the Cub, and couldn't be happier.

Yeah, I know, cut the branches. Well, if I did there would be nothing left of the trees. A riding mower puts me down below the branches. Stopping isn't something you have to plan a week in advance with a normal riding mower either.

If you've got a big open estate with no low branches, it'll work pretty well.
