Farmall H and a log splitter

I just came into possession of a log splitter with a blown 11 horse B&S motor. I was thinking of using my H to operate it, but wanted to get some opinions on the best option. Option 1 is to use the belly pump on the H with some longer hoses. But I'm not sure if my pump even works. And if it does, does it have sufficient volume and preasure to split knotty white oak. Option 2 is to operate the splitter's pump with a V-belt and pullys I can get at the local farm & home store. I figure about a 1:6 or 1:7 step up ratio would be needed to to math the PTO RPM to what the B&S ran.

Any and all opinions are welcome.

Your right on the belly pump it wouldn't be near enough for the splitter. A pto pump might be your best bet next to replacing the B&S motor.

Idaho is correct. Drive the hydraulic pump with the belt pulley. it spins faster (~1100) and is out of the way. Putting quick couplers on it would make the hydro go with the tractor. Jim

I think you will be disappointed hooking it to the H hydraulics, and why would you want to rig up a bunch of belts.

Buy a new motor.

I'll disagree with the other answers. I think the belly pump, provided it is in good shape, will have plenty of capacity to handle that splitter, BUT, you will need to add a 2 way valve to the system. Probably can use the 2 way valve that is already on the splitter, but move it to the tractor.

my neighbor runs his splitter off his H hyd with no problems leave the control valve on the splitter where it belongs just a couple of hose quick couplers and your good to go just my 2 cents worth
