The tractor is locked in either fourth or fifth gear and the shifting lever moves into all other gears but does not disengage the gear it's locked into. Is it possible to fix the problem without taking off the transmission cover? Thanks for your help.

Drive the pin out that holds the shifter lever and remove the shifter lever. Now either pfasten the clutch pedal down to release the pressure mite need to block the wheels so it doesent run away. Now with a lite look at the shift rails. move the one thats out of line so all three are lined up together and you will be good to go. Mite need to jack up one wheel so the rail can be moved. Your shift lever needs to be built up a little so it doesent slip out of the rail not uncommon for your problem to happen just dont speed shift under power.

With Gene here.

I bet the tip of the shifter needs to be built up and re sized. There are several post on here to show how it is done.

The tip should be 3/4" fore-and-aft, 0.30" thick, and 0.43" from the necked-down area to the end of the tip. I can"t figure how to post a picture, but it"s available. Did mine, and it shifts great.
