Thread Sealer Compatible With Gasoline???

What is the proper thread sealer to be used in the fuel system like on the fuel shut off/sediment bowl that screws into the bottom of the fuel tank? I believe that plumbers teflon tape (the white stretchy stuff) is fine for water and anti-freeze applications but I'm hesitant to use for fuel applications. What is generally used for fuel/gasoline applications on our tractors? Thanks much for your suggestions, Hal.

Hal - Permatex #2 (black) and teflon pipe dope both work fine with gasoline.

Teflon tape is OK with gas too. The problem is if not properly applied it can shred. Then bits of teflon get into the carburetor and cause problems.

I have always just used Teflon tape. Like Bob M said though, make sure you wrap it the proper direction so it seals instead of shreds.

I use the Teflon Paste has worked just fine. Be careful of the tape so as not to get any loose stuff in the line.

Teflon tape is fine. The specific "fuel" teflon tape is yellow or blue depending on manufacturer and is a little thicker. It won't shred and takes less wraps. .

Most peole replacing that unit bore it a tad, insert a 7/8 inch long copper tube to keep from sucking the very bottom contaminated gas into the carb.

I don't like sediment bowls. Seem to be a PIA for me. I replace them with the pictured assembly.

I used blue teflon tape advertised as gas, oil, fuel tape.

Gasoil brand. the spelling may not be right but gasoil is made for gas fittings.

I use the goopy pipe dope stuff and it works great. Permatex makes one for head bolts that is a finer ground and smoother.

I don't like teflon tape because I don't believe it fills the gaps as well, also little pieces can get loose and clog things.

Thanks for your awesome support with the many safe and useful suggestions. I'm an originality kind of guy in my restorations so I will choose one of the many available products that looks correct. Thanks again and I think we can put this one in the completed file, Hal.

I don't use teflon tape anywhere. Teflon tape is too slippery. Structural joints do not remain tight over time and can easily unscrew. A Teflon-based pipe dope is what I use for steam, water, fuels. Never an issue.

Getting a small piece of teflon tape down stream in a plumbing project can gum up carbs and valves.
